IHS Markit’s securities finance team for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) has brought on a new sales director focused on the buy side, but is set to lose a product specialist on the sell side.

Gavin Marcus (pictured) is based in London and serves as a sales director under Charlie Bedford-Forde, executive director and head of EMEA sales for securities finance.

According to IHS Markit, Marcus will leverage his regulatory experience to focus on buy side business development related to the incoming Securities Financing Transactions Regulation (SFTR), as well as expanding the firm’s securities finance coverage in Europe.

The first phase of SFTR is due to come into force on 13 April and will introduce a comprehensive reporting regime for investment firms and credit institutions. The reporting requirements will then extend to the buy side as part of phase three in October.

Prior to IHS Markit, Marcus worked in regulatory reporting sales at Trax, a subsidiary of MarketAxess for just under three years.

Commenting on the hire, Bedford-Forde said: “Gavin Marcus brings strong expertise in transaction reporting and SFTR, which will be instrumental as we increase our engagement with buy side institutions whose SFTR reporting responsibilities go live in October of this year.”

Elsewhere, it was separately confirmed that Lee Bernini is leaving his role as a product specialist focusing on the sell side across EMEA for the IHS Markit securities finance team.

Bernini has served in the role since March 2018 and is also based in London.

Bernini was unable to immediately disclose where he is headed but it is understood that he will begin his new role later this month.

“As we enter the new year, the securities finance group at IHS Markit continues to evolve in step with global markets," a spokesperson for IHS Markit tells SLT."We are excited to add Gavin’s expertise to our buy side sales team and thank Lee for his contributions to our sell side product team.”
