Hilltop Securities, a Texas-based financial services provider, has promoted John Muschalek to become its head of wealth management with its securities lending and clearing services.

Muschalek takes on his new role after serving more than 27 years with the firm, including his most recent role as chief administrative officer.

He will report to the firm’s president and CEO Brad Winges, who joined Hilltop from US asset manager Piper Jaffray in February 2019.

As part of his new role, Muschalek will additionally take on oversight of Hilltop’s private client group and independent advisor network businesses.

“John Muschalek’s deep knowledge and hands-on experience with our retail, clearing, and stock loan business segments, the synergies between them, and the various products they utilisze uniquely qualify him to oversee our newly combined wealth management division,” says Winges.

Muschalek joined Hilltop Securities in 1992, and has since served as chief financial officer, financial and operations principal, and head of correspondent clearing and securities lending, among other roles. He is also a member of the Hilltop Securities executive committee.

He is also part of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Uniform Practice Code Committee and Financial Responsibility Committee and has also served on FINRA’s National Adjudicatory Council.

In addition, Muschalek is a past chairman of the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association Clearing Firms Committee.
