European money market fund (MMF) managers will get an additional four months to prepare their first reports under the MMF Regulation to allow time for a new XML schema to be released.
The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) had previously requested MMF managers to send reports to their national regulators by April, but the need for last-minute edits to the template to be used means that the deadline is now September.
In July 2019, ESMA published a first version of the XML schemas and reporting instructions, the guidelines included stress test scenarios in relation to hypothetical changes in MMFs’ liquidity levels, credit and interest rate risks and redemptions levels -
After reviewing the feedback by market participants in February, ESMA has decided to implement new amendments on the XML schema which it says will be published on its website “shortly”.
The reference period for the first reporting is still envisaged for Q1 2020. That means that the MMF managers will have to report in September quarterly reports for both the Q1 and Q2 reporting periods.
