The International Securities Lending Association (ISLA) has entered into a partnership with Latham & Watkins LLP to promote the advance of securities lending activities in the Middle East.
The Association indicates that recent developments in market infrastructure and in the legal and regulatory framework provide a good background to step up its advocacy activities and to liaise with regulators and local stakeholders in the region.
In the first phase of the partnership, ISLA and Latham & Watkins will be focusing on steps to advance securities lending and to boost market liquidity in Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi and Dubai — including the Abu Dhabi Global Market and the Dubai International Financial Centre.
These initiatives will initially be discussed in ISLA’s Developing Markets Working Group, led by the Association’s director of regulatory affairs Farrah Mahmood and chaired by eSecLending managing director for product development Ed Oliver.
