Air France KLM led the FIS Astec Analytics hot stocks list for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa last week.

The airline has seen its share price plummet since the start of the year. Short interest has been at ground level between November and March, but volumes took off steeply, rising almost 460 percent since the start of March.

Shares were down some 44 percent at the close of last week from the peak price seen in November.

Following Air France KLM, was Ablynx NV. The Belgium-based biopharmaceutical firm’s volumes have, up to the close of last week, fallen by some 86 percent, while utilisation jumped from 13 to 66 percent.

Top of the Americas hot stocks list was Sprint, the US-based provider of wireless and wireline services.

FIS found short sellers were rebuilding their positions and have continued to expand their exposure to Sprint with a jump of 21 percent in the last week alone.

Utilisation closed last week, along with volume, just off the new 12-month peak seen midweek, at 87 percent.

Energous, which appeared in the number four slot last week, follows Sprint this week as short interest volume continues to fall ahead of the first quarter earnings report, dropping 4 percent but pushing utilisation down twice as fast at almost 9 percent.

FIS said this move up the list suggests that supply has increased in the marketplace, which may have come from new purchases by large, institutional funds, which helped the shares move up slightly.
