Former sec lending exec tapped for Swiss Army top job

Ex-securities lending senior executive, Thomas Süssli, is set to take over as Switzerland’s corps commander.
Süssli spent a large part of his professional career, from 1989 to 2015, in the finance sector and was most recently the CEO of Vontobel Financial Products from October through to June 2015.
Prior to that, Süssli was head of investment advisory international, global external asset managers and director of Credit Suisse from April 2011 to September 2014.
He also held roles at Bank Vontobel AG, between 2008 and 2011, IFBS AG between 2001 and 2007, and UBS Investment Bank, between 1989 and 2001.
At Bank Vontobel AG, he initially served as a securities lending and repo trader and investment banking director before moving onto become head of processing management, transaction banking in 2009.
Alongside his financial career, Süssli was also moving through the ranks of the armed forces, having started as captain, commander of a mobile hospital company in 1995.
He later moved into the IT and cyber defence sphere to serve as a deputy chief of staff in logistics brigade staff in 2012 before taking on the full-time role of brigadier general, commander of the logistics brigade in 2015.
Following his latest promotion, Süssli will become the highest ranked officer in Switzerland’s armed forces from 2020.
