The Women in Securities Finance industry group has hinted at plans for a new philanthropic component to its expansion plans.
The group was formed in 2018 based in New York and has since expanded to boast more than 400 members worldwide with North American chapters in Boston, Chicago, New York and Toronto.
Elsewhere, a European chapter was opened in London in October 2019 led by J.P. Morgan’s Harpreet Bains and BNY Mellon’s Ina Budh-Raja.
The group’s founding mission statement is to foster connections in the securities finance industry regardless of roles.
A spokesperson for the group tells SLT that its plans for 2020 include focusing on professional and leadership development programmes, continuing to expand its network globally and the addition of a philanthropic component.
Further details of what form this new arm of the group will take are due to be released later this year, the spokesperson adds.
The group has also become a regular feature of industry events and most recently hosted the opening panel of the IMN's 26th Annual Beneficial Owners' International Securities Finance and Collateral Management Conference held last week in Florida.
Alongside representatives from the group including Brooke Gillman, of eSecLending Securities Finance Trust Company and Arianne Collette, of Morgan Stanley, the event was hosted by was Debbie O’Connell, a professional speaker, author, life coach and president of Live Positive.
The session involved small roundtable groups led by senior industry leaders from women in securities finance to facilitate networking opportunities and discussed the key principles of leadership.
The discussions focused on using positive language towards co-workers, empowerment, abundance mentality which may strongly support the development of their team members, and delivering as a leader in the securities financing industry.
Delegates from the group will also be attending the Finadium Conference in New York in May and the Canadian Securities Lending Association’s annual event in Toronto in June, as well as other industry events later in the year.
