Pierpoint Financial Consulting, a boutique consulting firm focused on securities finance and collateral management, has launched a CPD-accredited online training course aimed at newcomers to securities lending.
The ‘introduction to securities lending’ course goes live today and includes nine one-hour lessons given on a weekly basis, plus further reading.
Students can also opt for additional one-to-one coaching or participating in an online Q&A session with Pierpoint’s founder and practice lead, Roy Zimmerhansl.
Zimmerhansl tells SLT that the new course will replicate and improve upon his well-established one-day introductory training course offered through FinTuition by providing more content and having less impact on student’s day-to-day responsibilities by not impinging on office hours.
It is understood that additional online courses covering other areas of the securities financing market are already under construction.
According to Zimmerhansl, Pierpoint ultimately plans to create a comprehensive training platform with a two-tier system that will offer introductory and advanced courses across a range of topics.
As the introductory course goes live it has already been endorsed by the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments (CISI), one of the leading professional body for securities, investment, wealth and financial planning professionals.
The approval of CISI allows Pierpoint’s course to be awarded accreditation by the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Certification Service.
The CPD Certification Service combines a range of methodologies for learning, including training and e-learning programmes. To remain compliant, students are typically required to conduct more than 35 hours of CPD learning every year.
Zimmerhansl says that part of the objective of launching Pierpoint, which was founded in January 2019, is to improve the perception and understanding of the securities finance market among beneficial owners and other potential lenders that may have misgivings about starting or growing a lending programme.
The online training course will contribute to this mission by giving industry newcomers more options for improving their knowledge through an online course that carries industry-wide recognition through its CPD accreditation, he adds.
Any additional Pierpoint courses will also be put forward for CPD recognition, Zimmerhansl confirms.
