Global securities lending revenues climb 25 per cent YoY to $845 million

The global securities finance industry delivered $845 million in revenue for beneficial owners during May 2021, according to data from DataLend, the market data division of EquiLend.
This represents a 23 percent increase month-on-month from the $690 million generated in April 2021.
Year-on-year (YoY), global securities lending revenues are up 25 per cent on the $675 million generated in May 2020.
Additionally, global broker-to-broker activity contributed a further $258 million in revenue over the month, representing a 4 per cent rise YoY.
DataLend indicates that, for fixed income securities, lending revenue generated from government debt rose 22 per cent over the month, with lending revenue from corporate debt securities recording a 36 per cent increase on April figures.
The rise in lender-to-broker revenue during May 2020 was driven principally by equities activity. The EMEA region saw a 44 per cent rise in revenue generated, fuelled by a rise in fees and on-loan values. Revenue from North American equities was up 21 per cent, largely driven by higher on-loan values.
The top 5 securities for revenue generation during May 2021 were Credit Agricole SA (ACA FP), AXA SA (CS FP), Blink Charging (BLNK), Social Cap Hedosophia Holdings (IPOE) and Luminar Technologies (LAZR), according to DataLend. These five securities collectively generated more than $75 million in revenue over the month.
