Investec Bank has announced two senior hires to support the launch of its new electronic equity trading desk as part of the next phase in the expansion of its global trading offering.

A recent hire Dominic Lowres will head the desk, which provides clients access to a new, global electronic execution channel.

According to the firm, this development enables clients to execute low-touch equity trades across multiple global trading locations, utilising Investec’s external exchange memberships and direct venue connections, as well as its own internal liquidity pools.

Clive Murray, head of equities, says: “Our approach to trading has always been to put our clients first. One of the services we’ll offer all our clients as part of our overall trading solutions is bespoke trading consultancy, where we leverage our insight into the equities market and advise clients on their ideal approach to market access in a unique way.”

Lowres joined Investec in July as head of electronic trading and execution strategy, with more than 30 years of experience in trading.

He currently leads a team with more than 20 years of experience in building low-latency trading platforms at global financial organisations.

Prior to that, he spent nearly 12 years at Panmure Liberum where he most recently served as head of execution strategy.

Commenting on the announcement, Lowres says: “We are delighted to announce this important new stage in the growth of Investec’s client-centric equity franchise.

“Clients are constantly looking at how they can improve execution quality, maximise access to liquidity, reduce their trading costs and ensure best execution with partners who can intelligently navigate and innovate in the electronic trading landscape to provide the speed and service they require.”

Alongside Lowres, Matthew West was hired as electronic sales trader, bringing more than a decade of experience in sales trading to the role.

Before that, he served under the same title at Deutsche Numis and Canaccord Genuity.
