The US Securities and Exchange commission (SEC) has named Paul S. Atkins as chairman.

Following the nomination by President Trump on 20 January, Atkins was officially confirmed by the US Senate on 9 April and sworn into office on 21 April.

This marks his third time returning to the SEC, having served as commissioner from 2002 to 2008, and represented the SEC in the US-EU Transatlantic Economic Council meetings. He also acted as chief of staff and counselor from 1990 to 1994.

Atkins’ most recent tenure was at Patomak Global Partners, a company which he founded in 2009 and where he worked as chief executive.

Atkins says: “As I return to the SEC, I am pleased to join with my fellow Commissioners and the agency’s dedicated professionals to advance its mission to facilitate capital formation; maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets. Together we will work to ensure that the US is the best and most secure place in the world to invest and do business.”
