BarCap and Credit Suisse wield the axe

BarCap and Credit Suisse have announced a number of job cuts. Credit Suisse's investment banking division in the UK will see 75 jobs go, while BarCap has announced that at least 300 roles will be lost around the world.

Barclays did say, however, that it was continuing to hire in other roles and does not expect total head count to fall.

"We continue to hire selectively across those parts of the business that are growing," said a spokesman.
