J.P. Morgan Asset Management has announced the appointment of Michael O'Brien to the newly created role of global head of institutional client group.
Effective September 27, O'Brien, based in London, will lead the firm's charge to bolster its client coverage model to reflect institutional clients' increasingly more global approach to asset allocation and investments. O'Brien will report to Mary Callahan Erdoes, CEO of J.P. Morgan Asset Management, and join JPMorgan Chase's Executive Committee.
"An evolution is underway in the investment management arena whereby our clients around the world, be it a Sovereign Wealth Fund in Asia, a pension fund in the US, or an insurance company in Europe, are each looking for a global perspective on capital allocation from us, given our wide range of strong performing asset classes and absolute return strategies," said Mary Callahan Erdoes. "With this as a backdrop, and our firm's long history with many of the largest institutional investors around the world, we are focused on continuing to provide world-class investment advice, especially during these challenging times in the market. We believe Mike's impressive institutional experience, proven track record and extensive global perspective will continue to enhance our offering to major institutional investors in every corner of the world."
O'Brien most recently led Blackrock's institutional investment management business across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, responsible for 12 regional markets and extensive assets under management. His tenure in this post dates back to 2000, and includes a distinguished acumen of successfully developing and managing the region's overall relationship strategy and responsibility for many of the firm's key strategic relationships across Europe. Prior to that, O'Brien spent a decade at Towers Perrin as the architect of the firm's investment consulting practice in the UK and Europe. An applied mathematician and actuary by training, Mr. O'Brien is a graduate of Limerick University in Ireland.
