Old Mutual Global Investors has hired Donald Pepper as managing director of alternative investments.
The newly-formed asset manager was formed in April when Old Mutual Asset Managers UK and Skandia Investment Group merged.
Pepper joins Old Mutual from TT International where he was investment director for hedge funds. He started out at Goldman Sachs in 1987, where he spent 16 years in fixed income and prime brokerage, before joining Merrill Lynch in 2003 as managing director of its European prime brokerage business.
In 2008, Pepper became head of alternatives at New Star Asset Management. He later became head of hedge funds at Henderson Global Investors, which acquired New Star, until he joined TT International in 2010.
Julian Ide, CEO of Old Mutual, said: “I am delighted that Pepper has joined us in this new role. [He] will bring enhanced strategic leadership to the non-investment side of Old Mutual Global Investor’s alternatives business. We have completely reinvigorated our distribution teams in 2012 and Pepper will make a significant contribution to the growth of our business.”
Paul Simpson, head of alternatives, who will continue to lead the investment side of the alternatives business, added: “I have known Pepper for a number of years and I am delighted he has joining us. [His] arrival will allow the portfolio managers to dedicate an even greater proportion of their time to continuing to generate strong risk-adjusted returns for their shareholders.”
