Vijay Chander has joined the Asia Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (ASIFMA) in Hong Kong as an executive director in fixed income.
While he will largely be focused on working with the various fixed income committees, he will also help address other initiatives in the tax and compliance areas.
Most recently at Standard Chartered where he was the global head of credit strategy, Chander has over twenty-five years’ experience on both buy- and sell-sides of the fixed income and credit universe.
Other roles include the head of market risk at Citibank in Hong Kong, credit portfolio manager at the Asian arm of the Prudential Insurance Company of North America, credit proprietary trader at Bear Stearns and senior credit research analyst at BNP Paribas.
ASIFMA, headquartered in Hong Kong, is the leading industry association in Asia focused on capital market development in the region. The association’s mission is to promote the development of liquid, efficient and transparent capital markets in Asia and facilitate their integration into the global financial system.
Mark Austen, ASIFMA’s CEO, said: “We are excited to have [Chander] on the ASIFMA team. He will play an instrumental role in promoting ASIFMA’s policy initiatives with his broad industry experience and product area expertise. This will certainly help the association continue to expand services in the region.”
Patrick Pang, managing director and head of ASIFMA’s fixed income, compliance and tax division, said: “Having Vijay on board will enhance ASIFMA’s significant capacity in a number of fixed income and cross markets issues. In particular, I expect him to play a greater role in standardising credit markets across to allow greater cross-border flows to improve liquidity and keep Asian savings in the region."
