Christopher Giancarlo is the new chairmen of the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
Giancarlo, who served as acting chair since January, was unanimously voted in by the Senate.
Brian Quintenz and Rostin Behnam were also unanimously voted in as commissioners.
Giancarlo said: “I stand ready to fulfill the CFTC’s mission to foster open, transparent, competitive and financially sound markets, in a way that best fosters broad-based economic growth and American prosperity.”
“I am pleased that the nominations of Russ Benham and Brian Quintenz were also confirmed by the Senate, and I look forward to the swift confirmation of Dawn Stump and getting a full commission soon.
I am also grateful to commissioner Bowen for her partnership during my tenure as acting chairman, and I am proud of the excellent work we’ve accomplished together.”
Commenting on the appointment, OCC executive chairman and CEO Craig Donohue said: “On behalf of my OCC colleagues, I congratulate Chris on being confirmed as CFTC chairman, and Brian and Russ as CFTC commissioners by the US Senate.”
“Together, they bring a strong and complementary breadth of knowledge and experience to the talented team already at the agency, and we look forward to working with them to help solve some of the challenging issues currently facing the global futures and options industry so investors can be better served and we can help these markets grow.”
