Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) has appointed Rico Leung as executive director (supervision of markets) for a three-year term, effective from 28 August.

The SFC is an independent statutory body set up in 1989 to regulate Hong Kong's securities and futures markets.

Leung, who is currently a senior director of the SFC’s supervision of markets division, will succeed Keith Lui who is retired when his term ended on 27 August, having been a member of the committee since 2009.

Lui joined the SFC in 1995 and has been an executive director since 2006.

SFC CEO Ashley Alder said: "Leung has accumulated a wealth of experience and expertise in supervision of markets at the SFC for over 18 years and I look forward to working closely with him in his new role.”

"I would also like to thank Lui for his valuable contributions to the SFC and his dedication and commitment to the commission over the past 24 years. On behalf of our colleagues, I wish him a very happy and well-deserved retirement."

Other members of the Risk Management Committee include Laura Cha (chairman); Tze Ching Chan, Ignatius, Yingxin Gao, Yuk Kun Lam, Lawrence, Chung Kin Lau, Clement; Chung Yin Leung, Rico; Xuezheng and Mary Ma; Barbara Shiu.
