Farah Kamal has departed from her role as director of new investment products at Wealthsimple to launch a new product and consulting firm.
During her time with the investment firm, Kamal helped to establish the new securities lending desk at Wealthsimple, including the recruitment of the front and middle office teams, implementing various vendors and onboarding counterparties to support the fully-paid lending programme.
The securities lending team was launched this year and has been shortlisted for the New Securities Finance Team of the Year award at the Securities Finance Times Industry Excellence Awards 2023.
Kamal has achieved more than 20 years of experience in financial services, holding senior positions at a number of firms including Broadridge, Scotiabank, RBC Capital Markets and KPMG.
Announcing her departure from Wealthsimple, Kamal confirmed that she will use her experience in the industry to solve problems that she has witnessed during her time in the financial sector through the launch of her new firm.
Kamal will partner with her son Faizan Sheikh on the new project.
Commenting on the news via an online statement, Kamal says: “Our industry is filled with so many incredible people I’ve met along the way, so thank you for helping me see my own value and supporting me.”
