State Street Digital’s global head of digital custody and payments, Swen Werner, has departed from the firm after eight years.
Based in London, Werner held product management roles in custody, cash and, as of September 2021, State Street Digital.
During his time at State Street he also became a board member for Fnality International.
He had joined State Street from J.P. Morgan, where he took on roles within the firm’s London and Hong Kong offices between 2011 and 2015 — most recently as executive director and APAC head of collateral management product.
Announcing his departure, Werner said in an online statement that his positions at State Street “[allowed] me to pursue what started as a curiosity about digital assets and blockchain into a true obsession”.
He continued: “The implications of ‘digital’ to financial markets could be significant but it could also have profound implications to society beyond commerce.
“That is why blockchain technology speaks to many “cerebral” interests of mine: micro market structure theory in economics, complex systems, philosophy, logic and the little I know of quantum mechanics.”
Werner will take a temporary break from the industry to focus on personal matters.
