Clear Street has appointed Christopher Smith as CEO of Clear Street Futures.
Smith joins the New York prime brokerage firm with more than 30 years of experience in the capital markets sector and has worked with various exchanges and regulators across his career.
He is also founder of ED&F Man Capital Markets, a futures clearing merchant Smith assembled as the financial services subsidiary of ED&F Man group. During his time as global CEO, the firm held over US$6 billion in client funds.
In the new role, Smith will oversee the development and execution of Clear Street’s futures clearing services, reporting to CEO Chris Pento.
The appointment follows the announcement of Clear Street’s intent to enter the futures clearing market and its concurrent acquisition of React Consulting Services and its futures clearing platform BASIS.
Commenting on the appointment, Smith says: “Clear Street’s plan to move into futures clearing signals its ambitions to provide a comprehensive offering in capital markets, and I look forward to helping achieve its goals.”
Pento adds: “We’re confident that Chris is the right person to lead the growth of Clear Street’s futures clearing business. With his deep industry expertise and extensive connections, Chris will be an invaluable addition to our leadership bench.”
