Dechert LLP adds Achim Puetz to the firm's financial services and investment management group as a partner in Munich. Achim was previously a partner at SJ Berwin, heading the firm's German Financial Markets Group.
A senior figure in the German alternative investment industry, Achim is the founder and Chairman of the German Alternative Investment Association. He has extensive experience advising both German and international clients on traditional and alternative investments. The conception, documentation and promotion of structured debt products is another special focus of his practise. Achim advises for many years institutional investors, especially insurance companies, with regard to their investments in complex alternative investment structures, especially hedge funds, commodity funds, real estate funds and private equity funds.
Said Achim: "I am excited at the opportunity to help grow Dechert's market-leading global practice in Germany. No firm offers a more compelling platform both for my clients and my practice."
Achim's arrival is the latest in a series of partner additions and expansions for Dechert's European investment funds practice. Most recently, the firm announced the opening of its Dublin office, which is headed by leading Irish funds lawyer Declan O'Sullivan, formerly the chair of the Alternative Funds Group at William Fry. Hans Stamm, formerly a partner at Clifford Chance and an acknowledged leader in the German asset management and structured finance sector, joined Dechert's Munich office as a partner in March.
Said Peter Astleford, co-head of Dechert's financial services practice: "We believe we have the leading financial services practice worldwide, with unique strength and depth across the US, Europe and Asia. Achim's arrival reinforces our presence in this expanding sector in Europe's largest economy. We are pleased to have the leading lawyer in the alternatives space in Germany join us."
