Swedbank has expanded its use of SunGard's Front Arena with the implementation of new algorithmic trading functionality within its capital markets division. The additional functionality is helping Swedbank enhance its trading and execution of equities and equity derivatives by supporting increased trading activity, monitoring execution, and benchmarking performance.
By using SunGard's Front Arena, Swedbank is able to provide its clients with a consistent best execution route, regardless of the level of trading activity. Swedbank's traders in Stockholm and Helsinki use Front Arena's volume- and time-weighted average price (VWAP and TWAP) algorithms, which help to extend the use of arrival price, market-on-close and participation algorithms, as well as alpha seeking algorithms such as pairs trading and arbitrage. In addition, Front Arena's algorithmic trading functionality integrates with Swedbank's existing solutions, helping to provide the bank with lower total cost of ownership and improved consistency of execution.
Claes-Urban Dackberg, acting head of trading at Swedbank, said: "It is important that we maintain a steady level of client service, satisfaction and confidence, even when trading activities are high. With SunGard's Front Arena, our traders are able to use trading algorithms in their daily execution to help improve their productivity. Front Arena also provides an open architecture that helps us cope with increases in trading volumes, adapt quickly to market changes, and expand to additional regions or businesses as needed."
Juerg Hunziker, president of SunGard's Adaptiv and Front Arena business units, said, "Over the years, we have built a strong relationship with Swedbank to help it increase trading efficiencies within its capital markets operations. Front Arena's algorithmic trading functionality is tightly integrated with the order management workflow, which helps deliver full transparency and effective execution."
