Spain’s CNMV wants short selling back

The Spanish stock market regulator the CNMV said it is lifting a ban on short selling of financial stocks that had been in force since August, saying market volatility had eased in recent weeks.
The lifting of the ban will be effective Thursday 7 June, and affects shares in 16 financial companies traded on the Spanish stock exchange. It comes just days after France and Belgium eased their restrictions, and a week after its was revealed George Osborne was suing the EU over its plans to ban short selling.
The CNMV added that investors taking significant short positions must disclose these positions to the regulator.
